AOA Student Receives First Place in Essay Contest

Second grader, Stella Edawrds, placed first in the Ohio Art Education Association Division I Essay Contest. She received the award for her art criticism response in the Jerry Tollifson Art Criticism Open.

Her winning criticism of the piece is below:

My name is Stella and this artwork is the American Dream by Ernie Barnes. This is a painting of a race. They are racing in the Olympics. They have strong muscles that look like lines on their legs. There looks like there was a tie between two people. The background is a bunch of different colors because the people in the crowd are wearing different colored shirts. There is a lot of yellow in this painting. Maybe the artist was at the Olympics and he was making a picture of what he saw. Maybe one of his friends was racing and he wanted to sketch it. He is proud. I like it because I like racing with other people.

Congratulations Stella! The entire AOA community is proud of you.
