AOA Soccer Player Receives Distinguished Award

Andrija 'Andro' Filipovic '21 has made quite an impact since coming to AOA this past August.

Not only has he made a smooth adjustment socially and academically to campus life, in his first season as a member of the Phoenix Varsity Soccer Team, the striker from Podgorica, Montenegro, has garnered local, regional, and even national attention.  After leading the team in scoring (15 games, 24 goals, 8 assists, and 56 total points), and to its first district championship game in program history (a narrow 3-2 loss to #1 ranked Kirtland HS), Andro received a wonderful list of recognitions.

He was named team 'Most Valuable Player' by Head Coach Bob Ahrens, the 'News Herald Boys Soccer Player of the Year' by our local news outlet, and '1st Team All-Ohio Honors' by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

If all this isn't enough, Andro received an even more prestigious recognition before the holiday break.   He was named to the All-Great Lakes Region Team by the United Soccer Coaches Association of America.  The Great Lakes region encompasses seven states and is widely regarded to be one of the most competitive regions in the United States.  We are so very proud of Andro for all of his accomplishments on the field this past fall.  We are even more proud of him for the young man that he is off the field in our AOA community.  He is a true student-athlete and we are excited for all that lies ahead in his future.
