The Cost of Credibility in the Age of AI

Gonzalo Garcia-Pedroso
A thought on credibility in the age of AI and pay-to-play recognition…

Credibility has always been a commodity.

For the right price, you can buy a feature, an “expert” badge, or a glowing profile on a big-name site. AI is accelerating the trend, anyone can spin up polished content, build a brand overnight, and signal authority without ever putting in the miles.

Let’s be honest... there are legitimate advantages to these tools. They can open doors, and give visibility to people with ideas worth sharing. Used responsibly, they’re part of a healthy communications strategy.

But here’s the dilemma that we seem to always face with these tools... recognition isn’t the same as impact. For me personally, my compass isn’t for sale. Credibility comes from values, results, and the people who experience that work every day.

History reminds us this isn’t new. For as long as time itself, people sought titles, coats of arms, or prestigious affiliations to enhance their social standing. The item may have changed, but the temptation to find a shortcut is as old as humanity itself.

Leadership, service, and influence don’t start with a credit card or an algorithm. They start with the hard, patient work of listening, delivering on promises, solving problems, and lifting others. That’s where lasting respect is earned, not rented. I couldn't be more grateful to all those I get to work with who help others elevate their efforts in the service of our students.

As we navigate new tools and shiny offers, let’s keep anchoring ourselves in what really matters... our students and their smiles... our team, character, competence, and contribution.
