Community Service

Community Service

AOA believes that service to others is crucial to the empowerment of preparing our students to be successful leaders committed to serving in an international community.
At Andrews Osborne Academy, we recognize the importance of being a responsible and contributing member of the local and world communities in which we live. Student volunteer service is an important learning component and furthers the AOA mission to engage students in real-life problem solving, cooperative learning and to promote civic responsibility.

Meaningful community service allows students to become responsible citizens, exercise leadership, create a sense of community pride, develop their own understanding of social justice, and draw a deeper awareness of the needs within a community. AOA is committed to integrating the learning that results from community service into the larger school experience. This concept, called service learning, allows teachers and students to make links between course-content, the skills and dispositions they are acquiring, and their community activities.

Students have the opportunity to participate in age-appropriate service projects at the individual, small group and class level. Running in charity races, working at animal shelters, serving food to the homeless, or raising funds for natural disasters are just a few of the countless service projects AOA students participate in on a daily basis.

Students in the Middle School are required to earn a minimum of 10 hours per year and Upper School students a minimum of 16 hours per year.

AOA Student

AOA makes community service an extension of hands-on education for students to focus on what they are passionate about and make a difference. It is not just something we are required to do here, but it is something we want to do.
