Visual and Digital Arts

Sixth Grade

Visual Art
  • Define and apply the art elements and principles while creating artwork of different media and genre. Media includes sculpture, ceramics, drawing, printmaking and painting
  • Utilize 1 point perspective to show space and depth in a drawing
  • Develop vocabulary for discussing and analyzing art
  • Interpret and describe artwork in whole and small group settings
  • Use references from contemporary and historical art as well as from other cultures as a motivation and inspiration for individual artwork
  • Implement cross-curricular knowledge as a means to create artwork. Apply understanding of Ancient Greek culture from history class to the planning and preparation of an artwork.
Digital Art
  • Complete a genius hour project, which starts with students brainstorming topics that they are passionate about, write an overarching question, and research the topic
  • Create an avenue to display their work, such as creating a video, animation, building a family tree, designing buildings using a Lego program

Seventh Grade

Visual Art
  • Demonstrate the use of tools, materials and techniques of various 2D and 3D media including drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, ceramics and collage
  • Utilize 2 point perspective to show space and depth in a drawing
  • Discuss and critique artwork in group, peer and self critiques using Feldman’s model of art criticism - description, analysis, interpretation and judgement
  • Use references from contemporary and historical art as well as from other cultures as a motivation and inspiration for individual artwork
  • Implement cross-curricular collaboration as a means to create artwork. Apply understanding of Medieval times from history class to the planning and preparation of an artwork.

Digital Art
  • Learn animation by beginning with a stick figure
  • Create a Thaumatrope, Zoetrope and a Flip book to expand animation skills
  • Create an animation made up of drawings, still photos, and video clips to create a seamless imovie about going back in time to the war in conjunction with studies of Williamsburg and the Revolutionary War

Eighth Grade

Visual Art
  • Achieve realism through close observation
  • Express identity and life experiences through artwork
  • Create space in a variety of ways in an artwork, including 2 point linear perspective
  • Design from multiple perspectives when creating sculpture
  • Problem-solve through the creative process using a variety of Elements of Art and Principles of Design
  • Communicate specific ideas and emotions through abstract forms
  • Develop creative ideas through the process of critique and revision

Digital Art
  • Learn about the various types of cameras, shots and angles, script writing, acting, editing and putting it all together
  • Create  imovies for commercials, chase scene, and music videos
