Performing Arts

Pre-Kindergarten (3 years old)

Pre-Kindergarten (4 years old)
  • Identify high/low and fast/slow

  • Sing and sign pitch patterns using do, re, mi, fa and sol 
  • Create motions that reflect changes in tempo and style
Kindergarten 
  • Identify and demonstrate loud/soft and fast /slow
  • Sing and sign pitch patterns using do, re, mi, fa and sol 
  • Learn how to read the note C and G on the musical staff
  • Identify, clap, verbalize and sing rhythmic patterns in 4/4 that use whole, half, quarter and eighth notes and whole, half and quarter rests
First Grade 
  • Identify, clap, verbalize and sing rhythmic patterns in 4/4
  • Sing and sign pitch patterns using do, re, mi, fa, sol and ti 
  • Learn how to read notes middle C, D, E, F and G on the treble clef
  • Play various classroom instruments with a steady beat and a variety of rhythmic patterns
  • Create 8 measure long songs using the mallet instruments
  • Explore the instruments of the woodwind family
Second Grade 
  • Identify musical symbols, tempo markings and dynamic symbols
  • Sing and sign pitch patterns and musical intervals using do, re, mi, fa, so, and ti
  • Explore the instruments of the woodwind and brass family
  • Play/sing independently and with two parts
  • Create instruments using recycled materials

Third Grade 
  • Learn how to play the recorder
  • Identify musical intervals by sight and by hearing them (unison, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and octave)
  • Write, identify, clap, verbalize and sing rhythmic patterns in 4/4, 3/4, 2/4
  • Create 8 measure long melodies on the recorder whole, half, quarter and eighth notes and whole, half and quarter rests
  • Explore the instruments of the woodwind, brass and string family
  • Identify and write the notes and intervals of the C and F scale on the musical staff
Fourth Grade 
  • Join 4th grade band and pep band as an elective offering
  • Attend Cleveland Orchestra concert
  • Write, identify, clap, verbalize and sing rhythmic patterns in 4/4, 3/4 and 2/4
  • Identify notes in the C, F, G and B-Flat scale on the musical staff
  • Create 8 bar melodic and rhythmic playing exercises using whole, half, quarter and 8th notes and whole, half and quarter rests
  • Explore the instruments of the woodwind, brass, string and percussion family
  • Sing/play independently and with three parts
Fifth Grade 
  • Join 5th grade band and pep band as an elective offering
  • Attend Cleveland Orchestra concert

  • Create 16 bar melodic and rhythmic playing exercises using whole, half, quarter, 8th and 16th notes and whole, half, quarter and 8th rests
