Mr. Barbarich, who joined AOA in January 2008, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from The Pennsylvania State University. He currently teaches Honors Chemistry, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Physics B, and Biodiesel. In addition to teaching, Mr. Barbarich is an advisor for the Photography Club, the Chemistry Club, and the Academic Challenge Team.
He is an active member of the American Chemical Society (ACS) through the Exam Institute High School Exam Writing Committee, Webinar Audience Advisory Panel, Chemistry Ambassador Program, and the ChemClub Student High School Program. Mr. Barbarich's other professional memberships include the National Science Teacher Association (NSTA), National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT), American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT), American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and the American Society of Microbiologists (ASM).
Mr. Barbarich is excited to use his background, along with the expertise of the entire AOA Science Department, to bring AOA to the future of science education. Through extensive grant pursuits, he has helped improve the science facility and technology. Mr. Barbarich is also working to implement contemporary differentiated learning practices into the curriculum, including problem-based learning, new modes of formative and summative assessment, and contemporary technology applications.
